Chains

February 4, 2024

This morning, pastor Brandon spoke from Philippians chapter one, which includes these words:

”But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.“ —Philippians 1:12-14

Brandon said this about that: “Chains bind prisoners. They also connect the ship to its anchor. They ground us.” These are good words, and true. So often, we only see the limitations imposed by chains; we miss the security of being anchored through the storm.

So what chain anchors you in times of trouble?

“We…have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us…[which] hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…even Jesus.” —Hebrews 6:18-20

Bind yourself with strong chains of faith, love, and obedience to Jesus Christ who will anchor you to unwavering bedrock truth that will hold through the storm.
