Mother’s Day

May 10, 2020

Mother’s Day 2020 is unlike any we have ever experienced. Normally, our family would gather for a picnic dinner, gifts would be given, laughter abundant. We did get together outside according to protocol, there was plenty of laughter, but not so many gifts—Linda merely wanted letters from everyone, and she got her wish! I watched her read them this evening, and noted the pleasure she got from them. Words are her love language, and she was loved on today.

On the laughter front, for Christmas last year, son-in-law Todd bought Linda an ear piercing kit. she has wanted a second set of piercings for years, and I was overruled. I have a hard time believing my favorite son-in-law became a junior Judas in this matter, but I still love him anyway. Nate’s girls decided to try it out on each other, not that any of them needed another ear hole. The procedure was pretty sedate except for Izzi, whose pain threshold apparently doesn’t exist.

Of course, the gathering outside was a bit brisk, as we had May last month, and are getting April weather now. Yesterday was a blizzard, the wind whipping the snow horizontally across the yard. It is melted off, but the cold still took its toll on the flowers we planted last week. Oh well...they are only plants! All in all, it was a great day. Even keeping distance, it is better seeing the family face to face than on Zoom. Flowers will eventually bloom, and though it’s cool outside, Emma enjoys the fire, and we are warm and healthy. Blessings abound; we just have to look at what we have instead of what we are missing. We have lots of love, and a life most would give most anything to have, so we are thankful tonight.
